Monday on Worldview:

Lebanese agronomist Rami Zurayk has charted the collapse of traditional agricultural livelihoods in the Middle East since the 1980s. The author of Food, Farming, and Freedom: Sowing the Arab Spring tells Worldview how escalating food prices and growing food insecurity contribute to the political instability of the region.

Then, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, one in seven people in the world go hungry. This year’s G-8 summit focuses on food insecurity. Gawain Kripke of Oxfam America thinks that with urgent action, G-8 leaders can help 50 million people lift themselves out of poverty by 2015. He tells Worldview how.
