Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world that bars women from driving.  A Facebook and Twitter campaign has encouraged Saudi women to gather for a collective protest on June 17 and demand the right to drive. The organizer has been detained by the Saudi government. We’ll talk with Mai Yamani, a Middle East scholar and author of the book Changed Identities, the Challenge of the New Generation in Saudi Arabia. And on today’s Global Notes, Jerome and Radio M host Tony Sarabia kick off a new series called “Musical Show and Tell.” Once a month, listeners will introduce us to a global instrument and tell us about its history, sound and influence on music. Santur player and Northbrook resident Jalal Rais Dana gets us started.
