Today we examine the state of women’s rights around the world. The arrest of Dominique Strauss-Kahn thrust a spotlight on the culture of the institution he ran, the International Monetary Fund.  And that light has revealed a place where many women felt vulnerable to sexual harassment.  Also, last week an Egyptian general confirmed that female protesters in Egypt’s Tahrir Square had been subjected to virginity checks.  And in neighboring Indiana, legislatures passed a law banning funding for Planned Parenthood, despite arguments that it would make health care inaccessible for thousands of women.  Kavita Ramdas, the former president of the Global Fund for Women, explains why it might seem like women are under assault from the United States to the Congo.
