As every TV news channel keeps reminding us, President-elect Obama’s inauguration ceremony is only days away. If you’re not one of those schlepping from Chicago to DC, Tuesday will be an odd mix of the humdrum and the historic. We’re attempting to document that juxtaposition on Tuesday and would love your help. We are embarking on a project to document the city of Chicago on the day Barack Obama becomes the 44th President of the United States. This blog will include pictures, video and audio documenting January 20, 2009. Everything from your morning commute to your bedtime routine. Think of it like a time capsule. When viewed in 100 years, people will have a better idea of what Chicago was like on the day the nation swore in the first African-American President. Here’s how you can get involved: 1. Carry a camera with you all day. Submit photos and short videos throughout the day to our Flickr group with the tag inaug09. Remember, we’re looking for everyday moments. If those everyday moments have a small indicator what is happening this day, even better (example: people gathering to watch Obama speak). But this project is not just about Obama, it’s about Chicago. If you can’t manage to get your photos on Flickr email them to photos@chicagopublicradio.org. 2. Comment on the action here on our blog which will be VERY active on Tuesday. We expect pictures, videos and audio to flow in at record pace. 3. Get involved on Twitter. Our reporters in DC will be using our @WBEZpolitics Twitter account and we’d love to hear your thoughts- just send them @WBEZpolitics and use the hashtag #inaug09.
