A bicycle advocacy group wants the city of Chicago to reserve a part of Lake Shore Drive for bikers and walkers.

The suggestion follows the city’s announcement that the Navy Pier Flyover, which is meant to connect the lakefront trail and keep people away from vehicle traffic, won’t be open until 2019.

The Active Transportation Alliance group says it has submitted its idea of closing a part of Lake Shore Drive until the Flyover is complete to the city, but hasn’t heard back.

A city spokesperson didn’t immediately return a request for comment.
