Activist Continue Fight For Higher Minimum Wage in Calumet City
Activists say they plan to continue to fight for a higher minimum wage in south suburban Calumet City. That’s even though the city council rejected Cook County’s higher minimum wage on Thursday. Calumet City originally chose to opt out of Cook County’s $10 per hour minimum wage ordinance back in June. Some residents and activists urged them to reconsider. But this week, aldermen again voted to keep the minimum wage at $8.25 an hour, despite a majority of residents calling for a higher wage in a non-binding referendum last spring.
