An intersex person is born with reproductive anatomy that doesn’t conform to the categories of male or female. About two dozen people gathered outside Lurie Children’s Hospital in downtown Chicago to Thursday to demand that doctors stop performing gender assignment surgeries on intersex babies. Protesters say the surgeries are often non-consensual and damaging to intersex people.
