The Chicago Police Department’s Bureau of Internal Affairs — which investigates misconduct complaints — said it plans to publish more data about its investigations and findings. 

At a panel on police accountability, internal affairs chief Eddie Welch said a new website will include information about the number of cases the bureau investigates, the nature of the allegations, and the bureau’s findings. He said failing to publish such data raises questions in the public’s mind. He said he could not provide a date by which the website might go live.

Welch described other recent reforms. For instance, to dispel a reputation for hiring by clout — or political connections — he said now, for the first time, officers must apply, submit a resume, and interview for a job with the Bureau of Internal Affairs.
