Illinois and Chicago officials are unveiling plans for a massive outpost of the state’s flagship university in Chicago’s South Loop.

The University of Illinois research institute will bring together students, faculty, researchers, and businesses. The 62-acre site will also include homes, offices, and a river walk.

The university campus alone will cost about $1.2 billion. The funding for that is unclear for now — a development plan is set to come out next year.
