Investigation Finds Bond Reforms May Put Domestic Violence Victims At Risk

Over the last few years, Cook County officials have reduced the jail population by thousands of people. They’ve done that by imposing reforms that lower bond amounts for accused offenders — meaning more people can post bond and await trial out of jail.

But a new investigation by the Chicago Tribune finds those reforms put domestic violence victims at risk of being attacked again by their abusers. Host Melba Lara spoke with Tribune reporter David Jackson, and asked him what his reporting found.
