In less than two weeks, all civil lawsuits in Cook County Circuit Court are supposed to be filed electronically. But court clerk Dorothy Brown is hoping to delay that. Brown has been promising for years to update the court’s filing system. But now, she is asking the Illinois Supreme Court to delay the roll-out by one year. In a letter, Brown says says the new computer system isn’t ready yet. But as recently as October, Brown gave no indication there was a problem — except that some people who represent themselves in court, called pro se, file using paper. Brown’s office didn’t respond to a request for comment. It’s unclear when the state Supreme Court will make a decision.
