Emanuel Mum On Who Will Lead Chicago Police Board
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel avoided answering questions Monday about who would lead the board tasked with disciplining wayward police officers in the city.
The Chicago Police Board’s current president Lori Lightfoot has clashed with Emanuel over the last two years on how to reform the embattled city police department.
Lightfoot’s term as president ended on August 1 and Emanuel had not yet appointed a replacement.
“I’m going to look forward to talking to Lori, like other board members, about where we’ve got to go,” Emanuel said Monday.
Lightfoot has criticized Emanuel for not pushing harder for court oversight of the city police department’s reform efforts.
WBEZ reported earlier Monday that the mayor and Lightfoot are scheduled to meet later this week. The police board’s next meeting is on August 10th.
