Former Police Conduct Top Investigator Announces Run For Illinois Attorney General

The former top investigator of alleged police misconduct in Chicago is joining the crowded field of Democrats running for Illinois attorney general.

Sharon Fairley says her time atop two separate Chicago panels involved in probing police shootings and other misconduct qualifies her to succeed retiring four-term Attorney General Lisa Madigan.

Chicago’s City Council appointed Fairley to the newly launched civilian panel in 2016, putting her at the center of police reform efforts after the officer-involved shooting death of Laquan McDonald in 2014.

Other announced Democrats for attorney general include state Senator Kwame Raoul, state Representative Scott Drury and lawyer Aaron Goldstein. Republican Erika Harold also is running.
