Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner is defending a statement he made Monday saying he’s not in charge of the state government. The Republican governor is referring to his main political opponent, Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, the state’s top Democrat. He says Madigan has amassed too much power over his 35 years as speaker. A spokesperson says Madigan has worked with the governor on some issues, but not on those that “do damage to working families.”
