Illinois State Sen. Daniel Biss is announcing his vision on Monday for changing the state’s criminal justice system as he seeks the Democratic nomination for governor. Biss wants to legalize marijuana, ban assault weapons and bump stocks, and end monetary jail bond. His plan also addresses law enforcement accountability, including a requirement that police undergo diversity and sensitivity training. Biss says trust between citizens and police in Illinois is quote “fundamentally broken.” He is one of seven people running for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in the upcoming March primary.
