An Illinois State Senator from Chicago is reportedly stranded on St. Martin, an island that was devastated by Hurricane Irma.

Senator Iris Martinez represents part of Chicago’s Northwest Side. She went to the island last week on vacation. Martinez’s office says the senator called Friday morning to say she is safe. But the senator says but they are running low on food and water, and haven’t heard from the local government. Martinez’s office says the senator and others on St. Martin are very worried about Hurricane Jose, which is currently gathering strength in the area.
