Immigration Activists Push For “Clean” DREAM Act

Immigration activists are pushing Illinois’ U.S. representatives and senators to pass what they call a “clean” DREAM Act. Lawrence Benito of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights says they want the state’s 20 lawmakers in Washington to reject any legislation that includes compromises such as funding for a border wall or for increased interior enforcement of immigration laws. Congress has until Mar. 5 to pass legislation authorizing the program known as DACA, which provides temporary protection from deportation for nearly 800 thousand young immigrants in the U.S.
