Several groups in Indiana are launching a 50-million dollar campaign to combat addiction across the state.

The state of Indiana, along with Indiana University and IU Health, is putting up $50 million to combat opioid addiction.

Fred Cate, Indiana University’s vice president for research, says the money will go toward building out addiction treatment programming, fostering education, and community and workforce development. He says the goal is to create a comprehensive plan that will ease the burden of addiction in Indiana.

The state’s fatal drug overdose rate has more than quadrupled since 1999.
