Lake County, Indiana, Selects New Sheriff

A career police officer is the new sheriff in Lake County, Indiana, and will finish the term left by his predecessor who was convicted of corruption. Oscar Martinez Jr. ran twice in the past decade for the Democratic nomination for sheriff and lost each time to John Buncich. Last month, Buncich was convicted of federal bribery and wire fraud. Over the weekend, the Democratic Party of Lake County, Indiana selected Martinez to finish the remaining year left in Buncich's term. Martinez is a 24 year veteran of the sheriff’s office.
