A Chicago man who missed the DACA renewal window due to a mail error now has another chance to apply for the immigration program. Last month, Carlos Mendez learned that his DACA application, which would allow him to stay and work in the United States was late because of a post office processing error. At the time, U.S. Customs and Immigration Services said they would not accept any late renewals. But this week, the agency announced they will consider late applications with proof the delay was caused by the post office. Mendez, who was born in Mexico, says he feels like he’s been given a second chance.
