A flimsy-looking chain tethers a bike to a railing on the block where Cook County Judge Raymond Myles was shot to death Monday morning.

CTA worker Raymond Cooke lives in the 9400 block of South Forest Avenue. He said the neighborhood changed long before the shooting that captured headlines.

“It was [safe], up until a few years ago,” Cooke said. “We’ve had a few shootings.”

Another neighbor said she was stuck up at gunpoint last fall.

The judge’s murder, which Chicago police are still investigating, has left her half-afraid to leave the house. The woman said she hadn’t gone outside in the 24 hours after the shooting.
