Tuesday, Wendell Phillips Academy in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood celebrated its second state football championship in three years. The school beat Dunlap High School 33 to 7 on Saturday to take the title. It’s a turn around for a school that was on academic life support just seven years ago. Senior and quarterback J’Bore Gibbs says he hopes the accomplishments at Phillips will inspire others. Phillips is the only Chicago public school to win a state football title.
