NU study finds incorrect immigration detentions
A study by Northwestern University finds that federal authorities have detained hundreds of U.S. citizens in recent years -- on suspicion of being undocumented immigrants. Professor Jacqueline Stevens of the university’s
Deportation Research Clinic says information obtained through a Freedom of Information request showed that immigration officials detained at least 268 U.S. citizens between 2011 and June of 2017 -- six of those in the Chicago area. Immigration officials said in a statement they don’t knowingly put U.S. citizens into removal proceedings.
