Private Company Looks To Build $100M Immigration Detention Center In Northern Indiana

A private prison company is looking to build a hundred million dollar detention center in Northern Indiana to house immigration detainees from Chicago.U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been looking to use such a facility to serve the Chicago area for years. Past efforts in south suburban Crete and in Northwest Indiana have failed. But now, CoreCivic a private developer, wants to build an 11-hundred bed facility in Elkhart County, Indiana. But again, there’s opposition. Immigration and Customs Enforcement wouldn’t comment on the project. The Elkhart County Plan Commission is scheduled to discuss the proposal in February.
