A public health expert says it’s “mind boggling” that Illinois’ public health department waited six days to publicize a 2015 outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease at a veterans’ home in Quincy. An email obtained by WBEZ shows the director of Illinois’ Department of Public Health — Nirav Shah — says waiting days to send out a press release when they knew an epidemic was on their hands was in-line with their protocols.
