Report: Gap In Chicago Police Minority Hiring

Earlier today, more than 100 police recruits were welcomed to the Chicago Police Department’s Training Academy. City officials say nearly 70 percent of them are minorities and that the department has “the most diverse leadership in CPD history.”

But a new report out today by the Chicago Sun-Times found a gap between the large amount of minority recruits and the ones that actually make it on to the police force. Sun-Times reporter Sam Charles joined WBEZ’s Melba Lara to discuss.
