Illinois U.S. Senator Dick Durbin is calling on the federal government to coordinate stronger relief efforts in Puerto Rico after last week’s hurricane. Durbin met with Puerto Rican community leaders today to discuss local relief efforts, as well what national resources could be sent to the island. He’s pressuring President Donald Trump to act immediately. The senator’s demands include asking Trump to send resources from the Department of Energy to help restore power on the island. Durbin is also calling on the president to send 1,500 service members to help provide disaster and humanitarian assistance.
