Some Alderman Say There's Not Enough Black And Latino CPD Hires
Speaking to the City Council on Thursday Superintendent Eddie Johnson boasted in the last two police recruitment campaigns about three quarters of applicants self-identified as minorities. But 9th Ward Alderman Anthony Beale zeroed in on another measure: actual hires. He pointed out, for example, only 17 percent of new hires were black. Beale argued for hiring as a way to help solve unemployment in the black community.
