The 23-year-old son of a Chicago civic leader was fatally shot last night near his home in the Woodlawn neighborhood. Xavier Joy is the son of Ra Joy, the executive director of Change Illinois. Xavier’s mother Nykea Pippion-McGriff says her son was funny, kind and smart. She says her son’s death is a sign of deterioration in the community. Police say no arrests have been made yet.
