State Rep. Proposes Legislation To Ensure People Who Post Bail Aren't Denied Public Defenders

Illinois State Rep. Will Guzzardi is proposing legislation to ensure people are not denied public defenders, just because they post bail. A WBEZ investigation revealed bail money is often borrowed and doesn’t indicate if someone can afford a private attorney. But some Cook County Judges were still using it as a reason to deny someone their right of a public defender.
