Steve Ruskin is an astronomy historian. In his recent book, America’s First Great Eclipse: How Scientists, Tourists, and the Rocky Mountain Eclipse of 1878 Changed Astronomy Forever, he describes how Americans went on all-out expeditions to see the moon obscure the sun. It was even a sort-of international space race of the time. Ruskin joined Worldview to discuss.
