25 Years of Ukrainian Independence, Former Prisoner On His 43 Years In Solitary Confinement and U.N. Refugee Summit

  • As Ukraine celebrates 25 years of independence from the former Soviet Union, the country is split by two years of civil war along its eastern border. We reflect on the situation. 
  • Albert Woodfox spent 43 years in solitary confinement, much of it in a six-by-nine-foot cell at the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola. He was released earlier this year. We talk to Woodfox about his experience. 
  • This week, the U.N. General Assembly is hosting the first-ever summit on ‘Addressing Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants’. New York Times reporter Somini Sengupta joins us to discuss the summit.
