The presidential elections in the Philippines begin next month and the race is already off to an intriguing start. The incumbent president Benigno Aquino III cannot run again, so the Filipino people will be ushering in a new leader. 

And the frontrunner, Rodrigo Duterte, has made controversial statements about rape and has advocated for vigilante executions of suspected criminals. 

We talk to Ted Regencia, a journalist with Al Jazeera English about the upcoming elections.
