Canada’s Inuit were some of the first to see their way of life change due to climate change, and climate scientists view the Canadian arctic as a reliable indicator of the status of global climate change.

In the 1960s, the Inuit began an organized movement to lay claim to their native lands and demand action on the climate. The beginnings of the this environmental struggle is chronicled in the film Arctic Defenders.

We speak with one of the “Arctic activists” featured in the film, Aaju Peter. Peter lives in Iqaluit, Nunavut and works as a designer, translator and advocate for Inuit rights.
