Adequacy of E.U. asylum policies in question

In just over a week at least 300 people have died near the Italian island of Lampedusa after boats laden with African and Syrian migrants capsized near the coastline. The recent tragedies have got European lawmakers questioning whether current EU asylum policies are really working. Demetrios Papademetriou, president and co-founder of the Migration Policy Institute (MPI), a Washington-based think tank dedicated to the study of international migration, tells us about some of the proposals on the table.
