Area Faith Groups Call Attention to Child Detention

For the first time the US detains more than 14,000 undocumented children. A number of faith groups have become involved in an effort to close a detention center outside of Tornillo Texas. Lee and Nancy Goodman of Congregation Hakafa in Glencoe/ Winnetka have been there twice. Their Rabbi, Bruce Elder, and a dozen of their congregation has also visited Tornillo. While they were there, the Goodmans met Joshua Rubin. He’s been observing the detention center for more than a month in his RV and has been posting about it on his Facebook group, Witness: Tornillo. The government says the site built at a former toll plaza was meant to be temporary, but Joshua’s observations tell him it’s growing. We’ll hear from Rubin and the Goodmans today on Worldview.
