Events in the Middle East and Eastern Europe have distracted President Obama, rhetorically, from his “Pivot to Asia” foreign policy. But issues like China’s intentions with Taiwan and North Korea’s detention of three Americans also make the Asia Pacific a strategic priority. We’ll consider U.S. relations with the regional powers and Asia policy with Bruce Cumings, professor of history at the University of Chicago. He’s author of the books Parallax Visions: Making Sense of American-East Asian Relations at the End of the Century and North Korea: Another Country.
