The 14th annual Chicago African Diaspora Film Festival starts Friday and runs through June16th. One of the featured films is The Man Who Mends Women. It follows Dr. Denis Mukwege as he operates on thousands of women raped during 20 years of conflict in Democratic Republic of the Congo and assists them beyond their physical healing.

WBEZ Film Contributor, Milos Stehlik of Facets Multimedia, talks with Alain Mukwege, a physician, human rights activist and son of Denis Mukwege. Joining Mukwege is Alexander Giovanni Miamen, a Liberian-born cancer research scientist. They both advocate for a stop to violence against women and girls as a tool in promoting health and well-being.
