Nasreen Sheikh is a Nepalese woman who was a child laborer in a Nepal sweatshop. She went on to start a fair trade company in Kathmandu at the age of 16.

Sheikh was also the subject of an Amnesty International campaign after she ran away from home to escape an arranged marriage at a very young age. We’ll talk with Sheikh about her harrowing experiences.

Her story is one of the many uplifting stories you can hear at Chicago Fair Trade’s 2017 Globalfest. The event strives to educate consumers on how fair trade improves lives and stabilizes communities in developing countries.

Joining Sheikh is Katherine Bissell Córdova, executive director of Chicago Fair Trade.

Globalfest takes place Friday, Nov. 17, 2017 at the National Museum of Mexican Art.
