Data project puts EU migrant death count 50 percent higher than official estimates
The Migrant Files, an open source data project from a group of European journalists puts the death count at 23,0000 for migrants trying to enter the European Union since 2000. This is 50 percent larger than official estimates. Shipwrecks and drowning incidents in the Mediterranean make up the bulk of the deaths, but the problem affects the entire continent. Project organizer Sylke Gruhnwald of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung in Zurich joins us to discuss how they've gathered their data.
