'Defying the Nazis: The Sharps’ War'
A Unitarian couple traveled from Massachusetts to Europe in 1939 to help save political dissidents and Jewish refugees who were fleeing the Nazis.
Waitstill and Martha Sharp helped rescue several thousand people.
Their grandson, Artemis Joukowsky, along with filmmaker Ken Burns, tell their story in the new documentary Defying the Nazis: The Sharps’ War.
Film contributor Milos Stehlik sat down with Joukowsky to learn how he uncovered the story and what the film hopes to accomplish.
The documentary airs September 20th on PBS.
