Back in 2011 a group of Pakistani musicians became a YouTube sensation with their interpretation of Dave Brubeck’s classic, Take Five.

American musician Wynton Marsalis caught wind of The Sachal Ensemble’s talents and invited them over to play at Jazz at Lincoln Center. A 2015 documentary called Song of Lahore followed.

The documentary’s companion CD was just recently released, with songs ranging from R&B, pop and rock to reggae, all infused with the flavor of the ensemble’s homeland.

On this week’s Global Notes, with Morning Shift and Radio M host Tony Sarabia joins us to sample some of those songs and talk about the project’s overall message.
