This week an Egyptian court sentenced Mohammed Badie to death. Badie is the leader of the now banned Muslim Brotherhood. Along with Badie, the court also sentenced another 680 people to death in connection to the death of a police officer last year. These convictions follow a series of mass trials and quick sentencing that have occurred in the last few weeks. Many human rights groups have expressed concerns over the court’s actions and the government’s continued crackdown on opposition groups.
