The war in eastern Ukraine has killed more than 9,000 people. Protests by pro-Russian citizens started in March of 2014 after Maidan protests brought a new pro-Europe government to power. Photographer Wil Sands documented the tensions between the two intertwined communities in Eastern Ukraine. His exhibit is called, “Waiting for Mother Russia.” It opens tomorrow at the ART WORKS Projects for Human Rights gallery in River North and runs through March 26th, 2016. He joins us to talk about what he witnessed in Ukraine.
