Questions about oil spills at an oil sands operation in Alberta, Canada continue to intensify. According to one government scientist who wishes to remain anonymous, oil has been leaking for weeks and little is understood about why or how to stop it. Canadian Natural Resources Ltd., the company running extractions at Cold Lake, told the Toronto Star that it has “taken appropriate steps to ensure no additional impact to wildlife or the environment and that the incident site is reclaimed,” but questions continue to swirl. A report out today on Canada.com reveals that documents obtained by the Toronto Star show the spill has actually been leaking since winter. Activist and independent journalist Emma Pullman has been following the story closely. She and Beaver Lake Cree Nation member Crystal Lameman, who also works as a Sierra Club climate and energy campaigner, give us an overview of what’s happening at Cold Lake. (Photo: AP Images).
