The Colombian leftist guerrilla group known as FARC confirmed they captured army General Rubén Darío Alzate. The FARC made the announcement during a press conference in Havana, Cuba- where the FARC and the Colombian government have been holding peace talks. The Colombian government has suspended the talks. The FARC and the government have not been able to agree on all aspects of a peace agreement, including things like reparations for victims of the civil war, but some progress had been made. We’ll take a look at how the capture of the general might impact the future of the peace process with Gimena Sanchez, a senior associate for the Andes at the Washington Office on Latin America.
