Twenty journalists from the Al Jazeera network have been charged with broadcasting false reports. The Egyptian government has accused the journalists, including two foreign correspondents, of helping the Muslim Brotherhood generate political arrest. On Sunday an Egyptian television station broadcast a video recorded during the arrest of Mohamed Fahmy, an Egyptian-Canadian television producer and Peter Greste, an Australian correspondent for Al Jazeera. The video, set to music, “is the latest salvo in a propaganda campaign by the state-run and pro-military news media. The goal is to paint the arrested journalists — known here as “the Marriott Cell,” for the hotel they were arrested in — as part of a terrorist conspiracy,” writes David D.
