As tensions rise between the U.S. and the Israeli government over a possible Iranian nuclear deal, the issue of renewed Middle East Peace talks has receded in the news. But some Israeli officials are still focused on a peace settlement between Israelis and Palestinians. We’ll talk with Carmi Gillon about the prospects for peace. He headed the Israeli Shin Bet security service in the 1990’s - during the Oslo Peace Process through Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin’s assassination. Gillon was recently featured in The Gatekeepers, a 2012 Oscar-nominated documentary about Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory from the perspective of the six living former heads of the Shin Bet. Gillon was in Chicago to speak on behalf of J-Street, a Jewish-American political lobby group. (PHOTO: Wikimedia/Arie Gal)
