Sweden has often been touted as a haven of democracy and socialism; Swedish policies to encourage inclusion, welcome immigrants and offer a universal economic safety net are frequently praised by liberals.

But now the Swedish far-right is gaining momentum, riding a xenophobic wave from places like France, Hungary, the U.K. and the Netherlands. A Swedish anti-hate group documented 3,064 cases of neo-Nazi groups meeting in Sweden last year. Earlier this month, hundreds marched under the banner of the national socialist “Nordic Resistance Movement.” 

To discuss the tension between left and right in Sweden, we’re joined by Göran Montan chairman and founder of the Montan Foundation. He shares his insights from his experience in his family business and as a member of the Moderate Party in the Swedish Parliament.
