Freedom Flotilla urges independence for West Papua

The West Papua Freedom Flotilla is heading from Australia to West Papua with one aim: to bring global attention to the West Papuan struggle for independence from Indonesia. The region was integrated into Indonesia in the 1960s. As the Freedom Flotilla sails toward West Papua, indigenous Papuan spokesman, human rights activists and lawyers are hoping to incite change in the region. Jennifer Robinson, Director of Legal Advocacy at the Bertha Foundation and co-founder of International Lawyers for West Papua, offers a bit of historical context and independence movement in West Papua.
